As the anticipation builds, the upcoming American football season promises the greatest game of the year, creating an electrifying atmosphere that fans and bettors eagerly await. Let’s take a closer look at the event with STATSCORE’s essential statistics for American football: pre-game insights, H2H comparisons, and predictions.

  • American football season concludes on February 11 in Las Vegas as the Chiefs and 49ers vie for the ultimate prize.
  • Our analysis, based on a thorough examination of regular-season and postseason data, indicates that we can expect a closely contested and intense showdown.
  • STATSCORE’s products, including ScoutsFeed, LeagueCenter, and LivematchPro, provide sports businesses with in-depth NFL statistics, insightful comparisons, pre-game and LIVE coverage to attract and engage American football fans.

Following 21 weeks of regular-season and postseason play, the 2023 season is set to wrap up in Las Vegas.

Patrick Mahomes and his team smoothly advanced past Lamar Jackson and the top-seeded Ravens, while the 49ers, overcoming a 17-point deficit, emerged victorious over the underdog Lions. Now, all eyes turn to the eagerly anticipated rematch of the opening matchup of the 2023 season.

Not only does the upcoming clash promise excitement for fans, but it also presents a prime opportunity for sportsbooks and media outlets to captivate their audiences with intensified American football coverage.

Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming game through the lens of STATSCORE’s American football data.

Get ready for the Big Game through top American football stats and data!

Seeking to secure consecutive league triumphs, the Chiefs aim to achieve a feat not seen since the Patriots’ back-to-back triumphs in 2003 and 2004.

This upcoming game marks the Chiefs’ sixth appearance in the grand final and their fourth in the last five seasons, underscoring their consistent competitiveness on the greatest stage of American football

For the 49ers, this will be their eighth appearance in the final game.  A win in this upcoming game would not only make the 49ers the first NFC team to secure six Big Game victories but also position them as the third team overall to achieve this milestone, joining the ranks of the Patriots and the Steelers.

San Francisco is the second highest-scoring team of the ongoing season with 28.89 points per game on average, surpassed only by the Cowboys, who boast 30.1 points scored per game.

On the other hand, the Chiefs come second in the league when it comes to the lowest average number of points conceded with 16.75 per game, the 49ers take third place here with 18.42 points allowed.

Interestingly, the data shows that for both teams it’s the second quarter when the highest numbers of points are scored

Road to the Big Game – in American football stats and data

Under seventh-year head coach Kyle Shanahan, the San Francisco 49ers ended the 2023 season with a 12–5 record, the NFC’s #1 seed, and a first-round bye. The next stages saw them beat Packers and Lions.

San Francisco 49ers were the team to beat in the NFC all season. When you look at their roster you see superstars all over. Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, just to name a few. Every NFL fan knows these names well. The one that doesn’t match is their quarterback – Brock Purdy. Last pick of the 2022 NFL draft.

Who would have thought that a guy, who barely made the roster last year, would be starting in the Big Game next season? Surely not me. But if you think he’s here by mistake, you’re wrong.

Looking at his numbers he was unbelievable. 5th in passing yards (played 1 game less), 4th in passing yards per game, 1st in passer rating, 1st in QBR, 1st in yards per attempt. Those are MVP worthy numbers, not Mr. Irrelevant. The 49ers’ success will depend on Purdy’s play and if he’ll bring his “A” game, they have a shot – says Patryk Mazurek, Sports Data Specialist at STATSCORE.

The Chiefs finished the 2023 season with an 11–6 record, then went on to defeat Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens on the road to the grand final.

The easiest way to describe the strengths of the Kansas City Chiefs would be using two names. Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. The first one is arguably one of the best coaches in the history of the NFL. You can put his name next to Bill Belichick, Vince Lombardi, or Don Shula and no one will object. Mahomes in a few years may surpass Tom Brady as the GOAT. He’s being compared to Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Greatness is in his blood.

I would like to go in a different way and point to the Chefs’ defense as their greatest asset. In the current era (since the 1966 merger between the NFL and the AFL) there were only 5 teams, who during the span of a season didn’t allow any opponent to score 28+ points. ’00 Ravens, ’02 Bucs, ’05 Steelers, ’10 Packers and this years’ Chiefs. All of them, at the end of the day, hoisted the Trophy –  Patryk Mazurek analyzes.

Historically, when considering the H2H of the last five games between the involved franchises, the Chiefs come out as leaders with 4 victories, with only one win by the 49ers.

Great event for the fans – opportunity to engage for sportsbooks and media

One thing is certain, the upcoming game is set to provide high-class entertainment for the fans and bettors, who will be inspired by the statistical insights designed to keep their attention.

Baseball is a game like no other – and the role of data, statistics, and analytics is much more significant for it than for any other sport. STATSCORE’s upgraded LivematchPro tracker will provide fans and bettors with in-depth live data that will let them follow baseball games even more closely!

We all know that baseball is a very unique sport. And one way in which its uniqueness is evident is the role of the numbers in the game. Some of these numbers can tell fans everything about the game (R – runs scored), or about a specific player’s skills and abilities (such as RBIs – runs batted in, SLG – slugging percentage).

But another thing that makes the baseball numbers so fascinating is that they allow fans to actually follow the game even without watching it. A succession of balls, strikes, and outs taking place in a specific inning reflect what’s happening in a given game at a particular moment.

The more one knows about baseball and the stats related to each game, the easier it is for them to be successful in betting. It’s all about reading the game and taking advantage of the data. As Billy Beane was quoted in ‘Moneyball’: “When your enemy’s making a mistake, don’t interrupt him”. Hell yeah! Do not interrupt them – use them!

Check out LivematchPro right now!

STATSCORE’s upgraded baseball LivematchPro tracker answers the needs of baseball fans and bettors.

First of all, it offers a deeper level of live match data, which allows them to closely follow not just the current score and particular incidents taking place on the field, but to stay updated with the whole course of an inning through the data on strikes, balls, and outs taking place. Which inning is it? How many players have we got on the first, second and third bases? Which team is at bat? We’ve got it covered! Moreover, the tracker has also been visually refreshed with a new background, which can be configured and customized to fit the graphic style of your website. You can adjust the layout of the tracker, change its colours, and specify if you want to display it in a vertical or horizontal configuration – according to your needs and preferences!

Boost your baseball coverage with LMP

Apart from the live tracking of what’s happening in the pitchers versus batters game, LivematchPro offers a wide range of match information, displayed in different tabs of the widget, including teams’ lineups, H2H comparisons, and standings.

All in all, STATSCORE’s new LMP baseball tracker makes following the game easier and more enjoyable than it’s ever been!

Sounds good?

STATSCORE’s LivematchPro is ready to help you attract more fans and bettors to baseball coverage.

What would Boston be without the Celtics? New York without the Yankees? Chicago without the Bears? It’s hard to imagine! In fact, a lot of major league teams in the US grew to be integral parts of their city’s identity. Let’s take a look at the most sports-crazy American cities with STATSCORE!

American sports are dominated by the so-called Big Four leagues, which comprise the National Football League (NFL), the Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Hockey League (NHL).

Which US cities have the most sports franchises?

Currently, there are thirteen American cities (or, more precisely, metropolitan areas) represented by at least one team in each of these competitions. Eleven of these areas also host a team contesting the Major League Soccer (MLS), which is the fifth most popular competition in the country.

1. New York City – 11 franchises

New York City has the most major league sports franchises in the USA.

NFL: New York Giants, New York Jets
MLB: New York Yankees, New York Mets
NBA: New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets
NHL: New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers
MLS: New York Red Bulls, New York City FC

The Big Apple, along with its metropolitan area, is home to eleven franchises competing in the Big Five major leagues. This should come as no surprise, as the city’s metro area, inhabited by about 20 million people, is the largest in the country. The Yankees are the oldest of the franchises hosted by the city, as they were founded in 1901. They are also the most decorated of the New York’s teams (and, in fact, the most successful professional sports team in the USA) having won the World Series 27 times!

Apart from the 11 teams competing in the top five leagues, the New York metropolitan area is home to a variety of professional and semi-professional teams participating in minor leagues, women’s leagues, and indoor leagues. These include New York Liberty (WNBA, Women’s National Basketball Association), Sky Blue FC (National Women’s Soccer League), New York Lizards (Major League Lacrosse) and many more.

2. Los Angeles – 10 franchises

Los Angeles area hosts 10 major league teams.

NFL: Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers
MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels
NBA: Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers
NHL: Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks
MLS: LA Galaxy, Los Angeles FC

The metropolitan area of the City of Angels, which is the second-largest in the US, is home to ten teams competing in the country’s five top sports – two for each league.

The most successful of the LA-based teams are the Lakers, who have won 17 NBA championships in their history,  which makes them the most successful team in the history of the league along with the Boston Celtics (also 17 titles). However, it’s worth noting that 5 of these titles were won when the team was called the Minneapolis Lakers. The franchise (named after Minnesota’s nickname, Land of 10,000 Lakes) relocated to Los Angeles in 1960.

The city also hosts many other pro or semi-pro teams, such as Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA). The Los Angeles NWSL expansion team is expected to join the women’s soccer league in 2022.

3. Chicago – 6 franchises

Chicago is home to 6 major league franchises.

NFL: Chicago Bears
MLB: Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Socks
NBA: Chicago Bulls
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
MLS: Chicago Fire

The Windy City, which is the heart of the third-largest metropolitan area in the US, is one of the most important sports hubs in the country and hosts some of the most famous and successful franchises.

Chicagoans are known to be die-hard fans of the Bears, which are called „the beloved” around town. The relationship between the city and the team (one of the oldest franchises in the NFL) is deeply rooted in history and reflected in a variety of ways, most recently in the support provided by players to the Chicago-area inhabitants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The MLB’s Chicago Cubs (founded as Chicago White Stockings in… 1876!) also boast one of the most dedicated fanbases in the country.

Then, of course, you must have heard about the world-famous Chicago Bulls, which gave the world one of the most amazing dynasties in the history, not just of the NBA, but of sports in general!

Chicago is also home to the WNBA’s Chicago Sky and the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars.

4. San Francisco Bay Area – 6 franchises

There are 6 major league teams in the San Francisco Bay Area.

NFL: San Francisco 49ers
MLB: San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics
NBA: Golden State Warriors
NHL: San Jose Sharks
MLS: San Jose Earthquakes

The San Francisco Bay Area, which includes the cities of San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland, is home to six major league teams, along with many other sports organizations.

Please accept marketing-cookies by clicking here to watch this video.

The oldest team located in the area are the 49ers. Established in 1946, as an original member of the new All-America Football Conference (AAFC), they were the first major sports franchise based in San Francisco, and one of the first professional teams based on the Pacific Coast. They’re also the area’s most successful franchise, having won five NFL titles.

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, the area was also home to the Oakland Raiders of the NFL, which then relocated to Las Vegas.

5. From Dallas to Denver

What are the other cities with teams from all the five top leagues? Let’s take a look!

Metropolitan Area Number of teams NFL MLB NBA NHL MLS
Dallas – Fort Worth 5 Cowboys Rangers Mavericks Stars FC Dallas
Washington D.C. 5 Washington Football Team Nationals Wizards Capitals D.C. United
Philadelphia 5 Eagles Phillies 76ers Flyers Union
Miami–Fort Lauderdale 5 Dolphins Marlins Heat Panthers Inter
Boston 5 Patriots Red Sox Celtics Bruins Revolution
Minneapolis–Saint Paul 5 Vikings Twins Timberwolves Wind United FC
Denver 5 Broncos Rockies Nuggets Avalanche Rapids

The cities represented in all of the top major leagues in the US are certainly special ones in terms of their large and dedicated fanbase, which, apart from providing their cities with exciting sports vibes, translates into opportunities for sports-related businesses.

Their love for their team not only makes them buy merchandise, and follow media coverage related to their heroes, but also provides betting companies with customers eager to wager following their heart’s advice.

As we all know, the start of the Major League Baseball’s 2020 regular season had to be postponed. For all of you who love that amazing sport, and for those who want to learn more about it, we’ve got something special! STATSCORE takes a deep look at the most important baseball stats and numbers!

Have you read a book called Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game? It shows how statistics and analytics changed the game of baseball. A film based on the book, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, was released in 2011. If you haven’t watched it I strongly recommend it. In this article, I will try to illustrate how some statistics are counted and which players have the best numbers.

  • ERA (Earned Runs Average) – statistic determined by dividing the number of earned runs allowed by the number of innings pitched and multiplying by nine. For example, a pitcher played full 7 innings, in which he gave up 3 runs. His ERA would equal to 3.86 (3*9/7). This means that on average he is allowing 3.86 runs per a full 9-inning game. The lower the ERA, the better. The lowest career ERA 1.82 belongs to Ed Walsh, who played 6 seasons in the MLB (1906-1912). Clayton Kershaw is also worth mentioning here. He has the lowest career ERA among all active pitchers: 2.44.

Check STATSCORE’s unique baseball trackers!

  • BA (Batting Average) – statistic defined by the number of hits divided by at bats. A hit is awarded when a player who is at bat hits the ball into fair territory and safely reaches at least the first base without the benefit of an error or a fielder’s choice. Career highest batting average: 0.366 belongs to Ty Cobb, who played 22 seasons in MLB (1905-1928). Hugh Duffy had the highest BA in a single season with 0.440.
  • RBI (Runs Batted In) – a batter is credited with an RBI where the result of his plate appearance is a run being scored. There are a few exceptions, however. A player does not receive an RBI when the run is scored as a result of an error or when batter grounds into a double play. Considered by many to be one of the greatest to have ever played the game, Hank Aaron holds the record for most career RBIs with 2,297. The closest active player to Aaron’s number is Albert Pujols, who has 2,075 RBIs.
Please accept marketing-cookies by clicking here to watch this video.

  • OBP (On-Base Percentage) – it’s the number of times a batter reaches base by hits, walks or being hit by pitch, divided by his plate appearances (all at bats, walks, times hit by pitch, sacrifice flies). It is sometimes referred to as on-base average/OBA, as it is rarely presented as a true percentage. All-time leader in OBP is Ted Williams, who played for Boston Red Sox (1939-1942, 1946-1960). His career OBP was 0.482. He didn’t play baseball in 1943, because he had to serve three years in the United States Navy and Marine Corps during World War II. Single season leader in OBP is Barry Bonds. As a matter of fact, he had 2 best seasons OBP-wise. In 2004 he had an astonishing 0.609 average. Two years earlier his OBP of 0.582 was the best in history at that moment.

Yeah, those who are closely following baseball know that it has a lot to do with mathematics! The excitement of the game comes not just from the action itself, but also from studying the data and stats! And when it comes to stats, there’s nothing better than STATSCORE!

Scoring touchdowns is the most important thing in american football. It’s very hard to win games kicking only field goals. How about other statistics? Are they as important as putting numbers on scoreboard? Below you will find other key stats, that will help a team succeed on the field.

  1. Total offense/defense yards – one of the best football minds – coach Vince Lombardi once said: “Football is a game of inches and inches make the champion”. One yard can determine the outcome of the match. In the past there were plenty of games in which 36 inches made all the difference. Super Bowl XXXIV comes to mind as a perfect example. Last play of the game, that went into NFL lore as “One Yard Short”, when Kevin Dyson was stopped by Mike Jones exactly one yard short of the goal line. One yard can crush the dreams of one team and fulfill the other.
  2. Turnovers – name a team sport in which turnovers are more important, than in american football. You can’t, right? Turning the ball over is the worst thing a player can do. Losing a fumble or throwing an interception literally can lose you the game. The worst turnovers are the ones, that are letting other team to score within the same play (pick 6’s and fumbles recovered for TD’s).
  3. Time of possession – very underrated statistic. The longer you keep the ball, the more chances to win you get. No huddle offenses are not very common in the NFL nowadays. Usually when a team has high average time of possession per game, they end season with a winning record.
  4. Quarterback rating – a measure of the performance of Quarterbacks. Passer rating is calculated using a player’s passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns, and interceptions. Passer rating in the NFL is on a scale from 0 to 158.3. 0 is the worst, 158.3 is the best.
  5. Sacks – what is a sack you may ask? A sack occurs when the quarterback (or another offensive player acting as a passer) is tackled behind the line of scrimmage before he can throw a forward pass. The conclusions are obvious. Making life miserable for opposing Quarterbacks is key for success. When your team is constantly forcing rival signal caller to escape from the pocket, his confidence fades. Currently NFL record for sacks in a single game belongs to Derrick Thomas (7). When you see a number like this, you know his opponent didn’t have an easy day at the office.

Preview of the 100th NFL season https://www.statscore.com/american-sports/preview-of-the-100th-nfl-season/ Thu, 05 Sep 2019 10:48:21 +0000 https://blog.statscore.com/?p=6251 The post Preview of the 100th NFL season appeared first on STATSCORE.

]]>

The wait is over, the NFL’s 100th season is approaching very fast. In the meantime, let’s take a look at how it all started.

The NFL was formed in 1920, as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season. The first ever game was held at Dayton’s Triangle Park on October 3, 1920, when the Dayton Triangles and the Columbus Panhandles squared off. Four thousand people paid $1.75 for admission, according to a 2005 Dayton Daily News story. Each player was paid $50. The game ended with the Triangles shutting out the Panhandles 14-0. As there was no playoff system in the APFA until 1932, a meeting was held to determine the 1920 Champions. Every team that participated had a vote to determine the winners. Akron Pros never lost a game (8 wins, 0 losses, 3 draws), so they were awarded the Brunswick-Balke Collender Cup.

Now, we have looked into the past, maybe we should look into the future?

The NFL’s 100th season kicks off on September 5th, with a clash between division rivals the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers. History is on the Packers side, as they have won 96 out of the 196 games that have been played, with 6 games being drawn (according to pro-football-reference.com). Bookmakers, on the other hand, are giving the advantage to the Bears. In my opinion, we will see a hard fought game resulting in a Bears victory. My score prediction: Bears 27-24 Packers

WHO WILL WIN THE SUPER BOWL?

There are plenty of contenders and I have 4 candidates. If none of these go on to win the trophy, It will be a real surprise.

  1. The New England Patriots, they have been among the favorites every year since the start of the decade. Maybe when the likes of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady retire, they will start to lose that status and we will see a drop in their level of play.
  2. The Los Angeles Rams are last year’s runners up. They had an amazing season, there was only one very bad game performance from them, as it turned out, it was the most important one.
  3. The New Orleans Saints with Drew Brees at the helm, things can’t go wrong, right?
  4. Philadelphia Eagles with a healthy Carson Wentz at Quarterback and so many offensive weapons around him, they are destined for success. As a matter of fact, I predict Carson Wentz to win the trophy for the most valuable player this season.

As you can see, the season promises to be amazing. So for all sports lovers, I strongly recommend that you sit back, relax and enjoy the football.

This is it! Every fan of basketball just waits for this event during the regular season. 3 days when the best basketball players compare each other and show all the best they can. For one player it may be a time to rest and take power for the rest of the season but for the others, it’s an opportunity to show their advantage and maybe make a deal with sponsors.

TEAM USA VS TEAM WORLD

Successful revenge for the last year lost by Team USA. Easy win 161 -144, the match was under control by team USA. We did see a lot of fun and a lot of dunks. Team World was leading only by 1 point. The biggest lead by Team USA over the match was 17 points. Kyle Kuzma was chosen the MVP and scored 35 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a block. Impressive!

SKILLS CHALLENGE

Dribble between obstacles, pass accuracy, layup and three-point shot. Same things every year in this event. All the players which start in this competition were creative. The biggest impression did Jayson Tatum when in the final of the event. He was 3 meters behind Trae Young when he decided to throw 3 point shot from a half court and he did it. Again pretty impressive.

THREE-POINT CONTEST

Favourite was, of course, Stephen Curry, who was supposed to confirm his domination in the league in the 3-point shoot. He made in final series 9 3-point shots in a row, but that was not enough for a win. Joe Harris was the guy who surprised everybody. The last 5 shots – which were counted double – has decided. The winner scored 5/5 in the last rack and he beats opponents in the final series.

SLAM DUNK CONTEST

Hamidou Diallo was the winner of this year event. He showed confidence, almost all of his dunks were made in the first try what, as we can say, was the reason for his win. The biggest impression on the audience made a dunk over Shaquille O’Neal. Diallo deserved for this statue!

NBA ALL-STAR GAME

The event finished All-Star weekend. In this match, we saw everything: great assists, dunks, layups, 3-point shots in a row, defences… Team LeBron was a favourite in this game and showed advantage 178 – 164. Even though Team Giannis was leading by 20 points. Giannis Antetokounmpo did his best with 38 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, but that was still not enough. In this match, we saw 167 3-point shot attempts. Kevin Durant from Team LeBron became MVP in with 31 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks and 66,7 field goal percentage. Really impressive.

James Harden is unique basketball player. Some of us thought his nickname would be temporary. But I think that after what’s happening in the NBA this season with James Harden’s stats, no one has any doubts about his greatness. The nickname “fear the beard” will appear on basketball hoodies and footwear for a long time to come!

I don’t wanna talk about his defensive attributes because they are not the strongest part of his skill set, but his attacking ability and what he is doing this season is just incredible. For me, he’s a franchise player and maybe a future “Hall Of Fame” contender, but for now, maybe that’s too big a statement.

James Harden – The best stats for half a century?

Such strong words may be somewhat exaggerated in general, but if we look at some specific numbers, it is not so far from the truth. Take the tour with amazing statistics of James Harden:

  • Average points per game in January 43.6 (no one has been close to this average for nearly 55years, back when Wilt Chamberlain, averaged 45.8 points per game over a one month period)
  • 30 consecutive games over 29.5 points – again, this statistic is only bettered by  Wilt Chamberlain.
  • Scored 50 + points in 5 matches
  • He also has a series where his average points per game were 52.2.
  • First player in the history of the NBA to have 20 free throw attempts and 20 3-point attempts in a single  game
  • 5th players in the history of the NBA who has crossed the 60 point barrier in a game more than once.
  • 6 times this season he has scored triple-double statistics.
  • In 53 games this season he has scored at least one 3 point shot.
  • He’s also joined the group of players who have scored 60 + points on one of the Greatness courts of the NBA – Madison Square Garden (above Harden right now are only 3 players: Wilt Chamberlain 73p, 62p, Elgin Baylor 71p and Carmelo Anthony 62p)
  • He didn’t score a single point from an assist from teammates for 7 matches in a row.

As you can see “Beard” will probably be the leading points scorer per game come to the end of the season, surely no one can catch him right now. The question is what will his stats show at the end of the season? Will he beat the following records? 81 Points Kobe Bryant or maybe the 70 points of Devin Booker? I wish him all the best, because we just don’t know when we will be able to watch a similar performance in the world’s best basketball league – The NBA!

NBA – the greatest basketball league ever. This is not a topic for a discussion. This is a statement that you can not argue with. Some of the top STATSCORE experts took their time to bring you their analytical expectations. Grab some good coffee, play a chilling out music and read everything that you need to know about what to expect from this season.

When you say NBA, you think Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant. When you think NBA Champions, you say Golden State Warriors and…? And here’s the problem for the current season’s competition for the best basketball league in the world. The champions from Oracle Arena have been unrivaled over the last few years. Someone can say “Cleveland Cavaliers won two years ago”. It’s hard to disagree because indeed they did, but how much of this was due to teamwork and how much to LeBron James and his basketball genius? He excelled in every position and he managed the team as if he was the coach himself. I am leaving it there – judge for yourself.

Let’s take a look at the current season. The teams that disappoint so far, the teams with chances for the playoffs and the teams that will fight for the NBA championship.

East Conference

Washington Wizards is the first team that catches the eye when you look at the standings. The team from the Capital that was supposed to fight for a place in the East Conference Final, are now outside the first 8 and are currently not even in the playoffs. Many people expected much more due to the amount of talent they have – Bradley Beal, John Wall or Dwight Howard who came in this summer. People  are beginning to have doubts about the coaching skills of Scott Brooks.

Toronto Raptors – with new coach – Nick Nurse and one of the best NBA players – Kawhi Leonard,  are showing the fullness of their capabilities. Kyle Lowry with an average 10 assist per game, Leonard with his average of 24 points and almost 2 steals per match. Add to this the fact this is a team of tall players  who are collecting a large  number of rebounds, not only in defense but also in offense. That makes the team from Toronto, a real pretender for the title.

Milwaukee Bucks – The star of the “Bucks” – Giannis Antetokounmpo is making huge progress, season after season. In this campaign he is also showing the skills of a future MVP, his average ‘triple-double’ stats make a huge impression. When you add the support from Kris Middleton, Eric Bledsoe or Brook Loper –  all playing great basketball and racking up the points, you have serious contenders for the championship.

Boston Celtics – Kyrie, Tatum, Hayward, Smart, Rozier, Morris and Horford in one team. These players would not cooperate so well without Stevens management, the young coach is making huge progress and Boston are returning to the good old ways. They are slowly speeding up, but for now, it’s a matter of time. Will it all come together in time to allow the Celtics to fight for promotion to the Final?

West Conference

Golden State Warriors – the starting 5 could all play in the “all stars game” without any problems. These players are absolutely unique. Curry – the best 3 point shooter in the NBA history. Durant – currently the top scorer. Thompson – just wait until he shoots his first 3 points, more will come with time. Green – a player with special skills, just like Denis Rodman in his prime. Cousins – all the fans are waiting for him. He will bring more energy and fight under the basket for sure. They all have to be favorites to win more rings.

Houston Rockets – currently outside the playoff zone, but it’s just a matter of time when they get to the top 3 and start to reach for the highest goals. Harden is coming back to his best form after an injury. Chris Paul with his experience and play making, makes a big difference as always. As if that was not enough, there’s also Eric Gordon throwing 3 points from all positions and Clint Capella, who has improved so much thanks to all the hard work with Hakeem Olajuwan.

Los Angeles Lakers – here we can say one name which explains everything – LeBron James. The player who could make any team contenders for the championship. Help from Kuzyma, Ingram or Javel McGee, who is producing incredible defense so far this season, will make it tough for all the competitors they will face.

Bartosz Dudek, Sports Data Editor

When you say NBA – you think of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. It used to be like this once. For a few seasons now we have seen a similar dominance from the Golden State Warriors. Nobody can imagine that they will not end this current season without getting the title again. A group of great players, perfectly managed by the famous 3 point shooter from Jordan’s era – Steve Kerr. Are you sure? Isn’t there any team that could threaten them this season?

I think, that this season could be different and there are some teams that can compete with Warriors. After the first batch of games, we can see some teams are playing very interesting basketball, there were also some curious trades and picks in the draft. Let me bring some teams that can surprise during this campaign.

West Conference

Houston Rockets – very weak start with chimerical Carmelo Anthony who will not play for them anymore after buying out his contract from the Rockets. They are now playing better and I see them making it to the 2nd stage of the playoffs.

Portland Trail Blazers – amazingly team-playing a spectacular basketball. We can distinguish Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic, but the real power of this team is collective and playing unselfishly. Will they keep up this great level? I think so and I believe they will reach the 2nd stage of the playoffs.

Memphis Grizzlies – quite a big surprise. Renaissance of form, great plays by Marc Gasol and Mike Conley. Some quality was also added with their 4th pick in the draft – Jaren Jackson Jr. A team that is hard working on defense. There is long way to the end of season and despite the great form at the beginning they could still have problems to reach the playoffs. They don’t have a long list of players to come in, and they play in a very demanding way. This could bounce on them towards the end of the competition.

East Conference

Boston Celtics – last year’s Conference Final participants. They lost it with LeBron James. A young crew, it seems that they will be more experienced this season. Now the hype on them is a little less than at the start of season and they’ve had some weaker games. They have about a 50% win ration and that is not satisfying for the team from that Final, that hasn’t lost anybody and have Gordon Hayward back after injury. I think it’s only a temporary crisis and during the season we will see  a fighting, energetic Boston with an iron defense. If they come back – for me a 4-5th place in Conference will be there for the taking.

Philadelphia 76ers– Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are playing awesome basketball. The first one is currently unstoppable. He has an incredible season. Superstar Jimmy Butler joined these two and he is the player who makes a difference, hungry for wins, gives 100% in every match. It seems like he has settled down and is coping well with Joel and Ben. That type of trade is a sign that they are playing all-in and are going to win the NBA. The weakness of the 76ers is squad depth, which is not so deep, and they could have problems at the end of season. I see them in ending up in 3rd place and with a very interesting fight for the finals.

Toronto Raptors – We were witnesses of the big exchange of 2 players who did not want to go where they ended up. I am talking about Demar DeRozan – legend of Toronto, who came to San Antonio Spurs. The other way round went Kawhi Leonard. This trade has one goal – to win the NBA title. GM of Raptors – Masai Ujiri goes va-banque. He sacked the best coach from the regular season and exchanges their best player – legend for a chimerical superstar troubled by injuries recently, who additionally has said to the press that he’d love to play for LA. A very big risk. Will it pay off? For now it looks good, Toronto had great start to the season. Kawhi is playing great, just like he did in his best years at San Antonio. Pascal Siakam, who was a reserve player, is now playing very well too. Toronto has a real chance to reach the Conference Final. If they reach it, anything will be possible.

Summarizing, if I have to predict the final results now, it would be:

Final of the West Conference
Golden State Warriors – Los Angeles Lakers

Final of the East Conference
Toronto Raptors – Milwaukee Bucks

Łukasz Kupiec, Product Owner

There can be only one major candidate for the championship. We are talking about the team that has won three of the last four titles in the NBA. Already they boast the likes of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson in their roster, but Steve Kerr’s team made an amazing addition with DeMarcus Cousins. Even though he comes from having a major injury, he should still provide a great support for the team as one of the best centers in the league. We have seen many players who were not the same after they torn their Achilles. But let’s think – do Warriors really need Cousins at his best?

They have already won two titles without him using Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee. Even if Cousins performs at 50% of his abilities, the Warriors are still better than they already were. In addition to that, rivals will have an even tougher challenge when defending. DeMarcus Cousins is going to be a threat both under the hoop and behind the 3-point line. That gives the Warriors a whole new dynamic to their attack. If you mix that with the experience of this team and coach Kerr, I cannot see anybody finding the answers to beat the Golden State Warriors to the title.

West conference

Los Angeles Lakers are still trying to bring back their glory days. How it’s going? Well… it is not perfect. 2017/2018 campaign? 11th place. 2016/2017? 14th. The previous few years were not much better, 15th, 14th, and 14th So why would I put them in my play-off predictions? The answer is simple – LeBron James. The King moved to California after his second spell with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Not only have the Lakers got themselves a great leader, but also a player that can be an amazing mentor for the likes of Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma. James should also naturally improve the Lakers shooting stats.

Luke Walton has a decent play-maker in his team with Rajon Rondo, who can provide the ball to his colleagues. There is also Brandon Ingram who can be called a “Swiss Army knife” in offense. He can handle the ball and play off-ball. He could still work on his strengths, but I believe he will provide whatever this Lakers team needs.

East Conference

Milwaukee Bucks are another team that will make it to the playoffs in my opinion. There is always a question mark about them as they have missed the play-offs in five of the last ten seasons. But I expect that this year their fans will have a reason to celebrate.

First reason for that is the so called “Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo. Tricky name, huh? Spelling it is probably as hard as stopping him on the basketball court. A dynamic, powerful, brave player with good ball handling. Many experts point at Giannis when talking about candidates for the MVP award. Last seasons he averaged 26.9 points, 1.4 blocks, 10 rebounds and 4.8 assists. A star in the making!

A weak point in this team could be their play-maker. Last season the Bucks struggled to find someone to fill that spot and finally they got Eric Bledsoe. Even though his numbers were not bad (17.8 average points, 5.1 assists and 2 steals), it didn’t really translate into wins for the Bucks. When you look at the 2017/2018 play-offs, Blodsoe was easily outplayed by Boston Celtics back-up play-maker, Terry Rozier.

Bucks have a new coach in Mike Budenholzer. He’s been part of the NBA since 1996, so you can rely on his experience. I expect an interesting battle for the playoff spots in the East, but I am going for the Bucks!

Wojciech Augustyn, Scouts Coordinator

Winner? Boston Celtics! Blend of youth and experience managed by one of the best coaches in the league. They should reach the Conference Final without any problems (they are not showing their best so far). There are probably hard games to play against Toronto and then they will face the Golden State Warriors, which shows that after loosing their leader, they are team that anyone can beat.

Otherwise, I see the teams below making the playoff stage:

Minnesota Timberwolves – They will be fighting until the end of the regular season but they should reach the playoffs if only Derrick Rose can stay healthy.

Philadelphia 76ers – They were taken into account before the start of the season, when people were talking about who would make the playoffs. After Jimmy Butler joining the team their chances have increased. They will be very dangerous in the playoffs.

Milwaukee Bucks – This team amazes me. It doesn’t look good on paper, but the team that are commanded by the “Greek Freak” is doing very well. They are winning matches against theoretically much better teams, for example Toronto and GSW.
